Global Advocacy: United Nations Eighth Substantive Session of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG)
Singaporean Youth Voices on the World Stage
YouthTech Alliance
- July 11, 2024
In July 2024, YouthTechSG made history as the only Asian youth organisation accredited to participate in the United Nations Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG) on the security of information and communications technologies.
Representing the perspectives of Singaporean youths, our UN-accredited research team travelled to New York to present three key interventions focused on enhancing legal frameworks, increasing non-state stakeholder roles, and boosting youth involvement in global cybersecurity decision making to reflect on the effects of the deepening application of artificial intelligence and the escalation of geopolitical tensions on Singapore’s digital landscape, as well as the need to do more to protect youths.
Beyond the formal intervention, our team actively engaged with ambassadors, diplomats, international researchers (including from NYU), and key multilateral stakeholders, participating in side events and dialogues that deepened bilateral and multilateral relations.
Through this, YouthTechSG continues to champion youth-led policy research and ensure young people have a voice in shaping the norms, rules, and principles that govern our digital world.
